SE Regional Championships 2018

22nd March 2018

Entry to the SE Regional Championships is fast approaching. A list of swimmers within 5% of the Considered (CON) time can be viewed here, together with those swimmers who have achieved a qualifying time (Accepted (ACC) or Considered (CON) in a Level 1/2/3 competition after 1 June 2017. If anyone thinks they have set a time but it is not listed then please let me know.

Entry to the Championships is via the SE Region website. Each swimmer enters individually and a copy of the confirmation email is to be sent to me. Our last qualifying meet is the Crawley Open on 6-8 April 2018 (senior) and Lution Open on 14-15 (junior) and I am looking to send off the entry summary by close of play 9 April (senior) and 16 April (junior), so all entries are to be completed by then.

I would strongly recommend entries are done as soon as possible as we sometimes get a few problems, particularly on the first time. It is possible to go in and amend an entry afterwards, for example if a time is improved or achieved at the Crawley/Luton Meet. Payment will not be needed until the Region has confirmed which entries have been accepted.

If anyone has any questions or needs assistance with their entry - please let me know.

Andy

Congratulations to our new Referees, Gary and Christine.

24th February 2018

Huge congratulations to Gary Blissett and Christine McLintock who today passed their Referees practical exam. To reach this level takes commitment, many hours poolside during meets and galas, as well as learning new skills, all in their own time.  We now have 3 fully fledged Referees within ADSC. Well done to you both, from all at ADSC and your friends within the county.

Squad Review 2018

17th February 2018

Following the Counties we always look to conduct a review of the squads in order to ensure sessions are appropriately utilised and swimmers are in the right squad that suits their ability and swimming objectives. As a result of the review we will be making a small change to the timetable for the Club Blue squad with the Thursday session moving to the Sunday evening (6-7.30) session. This provides the opportunity for increased flexibility in some of the busier sessions and may also offer some of the senior swimmers a better squad option than their current one. The revised squad structure can be viewed here.

Emails will be going out shortly to a small number of swimmers who will be changing squads.

Following the change we will be closely monitoring the number of swimmers attending the busier sessions, particualrly the one on the Wednesday. If necessary a further change in session times may be needed to balance the Wednesday and Thursday sessions. We will let you know if this is the case next month.

Please email Andy with any questions.

SE Regional Master-class

22nd January 2018

So whilst some parents were strutting their stuff at the Award's Night others were at Crawley showing off their swimming skills and what a weekend it turned out to be. Overall the small team came away with an amazing 8 medals and three county records - in what must be the best Master's Regional Championships the club has seen.

Di Groat (50 fly and breast), Deryn (400 IM - county record) and Kate King (100 breast) took gold as did the 4 x 100 freestyle relay team of Di, Heather, Deryn and Kate with Kate making up a 25m deficit on the last leg to snatch the win in the last metre in a new county record.

Kate (50 free) and Deryn (50 breast) took silver and Heather bronze (100 fly).

Deryn also set a county record in the 200 IM to add the final cherry.

Well done to all our swimmers - proving you are never too old to do something special. Full results are on the results page.

Squad awards went to Jack Devlin, Peggy Sue Telfer, Ben Oxley, Ruby Scott, Ben Cheetham, Kiersten Fowler, Oliver Coxon, Emily Curtis, Samuel Mitev and Grace Gibson. The overall contribution awards went to Hannah Oxley and Amanda Stockland.

Finally, after some tough decisions with so many individuals deserving of the captain's role, the 2018 team captains are Libby Blissett, Dan Riddick, Mya Kedzierski and Bailey Walrond-Guy and the club captain is Sian Morgan. A huge thanks goes out to our departing captains Grace Stockland and Lilly Neill who have done a superb job over these last two/three years.

County Championships 2018 - Day One

8th January 2018

The 2018 County Championships kicked off yesterday with the distance events and boys age group relays. Ilana and Jessica competed in the 800m event for the first time. Ilana was a little off her entry but maintained her ranking whilst Jessica took over 10 seconds off her best time to improve on her ranking by 5 places. Our results are on the results page and the full results are on the county website.

In the boys age group relays all the boys swam superbly with many setting PBs or splitting faster than their PB and most teams matched or improved on their ranking with the 13/15 boys grabbing a top 8 finish. The splits and results can be viewed here. Times set in the first leg of the yellow that were PBs are highlighted. Many thanks to all the parents who ensured all the boys were there and on time.

Well done to all those who took part - I must say you all looked smart in your new ADSC County Hats and now you can wear them with pride in training and future galas/events.

Arthur Blake Memorial Trophy - retained

16th December 2017

Well what a great end to the season where we managed to once again retain the Arthur Blake Memorial Trophy. Pressed all the way by strong teams from Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard it was great to see so many swimmers step up and race. With two teams competing we also had many swimmers competing in this event for the first time and some even doing a 50m race for the first time. It was also great to see our masters swimmers holding their own against the younger ones. Finally huge congratulations to Tom Moslin who, having missed the club record by a whisker on two occasions, took his final opportunity to leave a legacy and break the 50m fly club record.

Many thanks to Mark, Alastair and Vicki for all their help poolside and our great officials for once again making sure the event ran smoothly. Results can be viewed here PBs on the first leg of the relay are shown in yellow.

National Arena League - London - Round 3

10th December 2017

Well despite a valiant effort from all our swimmers we finished 3rd on the night and, as last year, ended in 3rd overall in the league and just missing promotion again. It was a tough night of swimming with some great lessons in racing. We took the win in 6 events with individual firsts from Ilana, Izzy and Emily B. Ilana, Millie, Stephanie and Tom also set impressive personal bests.

Many thanks to Mark, Vicki, Lily, Sian, Libby and Dan for their help poolside and Gary, Tina and Bernie for officiating. All the results are on our results page.

Only 10 months to go and we can try again - third time lucky?

Young Sports Leader Award - Runner Up

4th December 2017

On the way we also picked up 75 medals (33 gold, 22 silver and 20 bronze) and set 67 County qualifying times. Special mention to Josh who broke 60 seconds for the first time in his 100 free.
