County Championships 2018 - Day Two

14th January 2018

The second day of the County Championships kicked off with the 400m events. In the 400 IM Jessica set a PB and Kianna, Mya and Libby were all on or around their PBs to maintain or improve their rankings with Libby finishing 4th and Mya 7th in their age group. In the 400 free Harry, Kitty, Jessica and Libby all set PBs and Oli, Ilana, Emily C and Mya were all on or around PBs with Kitty finishing 5th and Libby 7th in their respective age groups.

In the girls age group relays all of our girls really stepped up and made some great improvements in all our teams with Stephanie, birthday girl Emily and Kianna setting PBs on the lead off leg of their respective relays. Most of our teams improved on their entry time and ranking and overall we finished with 4 top 8 finishes.

Huge congratulations to all our swimmers who represented the club today - great job.

All of the results, including splits, are now on the results page and further details are now included in the traditional "Story so far" document which will build throughout the championships.

County Championships 2018 - Accepted Entries

8th January 2018

The County has confirmed the accepted entries for all events at this years Counties. Despite the majority of our entries being accepted (with more swimmers competing in more events than last year), there were a number of rejections which did, unfortunately, result in some swimmers narrowly missing out on an individual swim this year. I would once again reiterate that achieving a county qualifying standard is a great achievement as our County sets some of the toughest entry times in the country and it is always disappointing when swimmers just miss the cut.

A full list of our entries and accepted/scratched swims can be viewed here. A list of event rankings for our swimmers (based on the initial list) can be viewed here Well done to all of our swimmers who have been accepted and now have the opportunity to push for finals and medals.

County Championships 2018 - Day One

8th January 2018

The 2018 County Championships kicked off yesterday with the distance events and boys age group relays. Ilana and Jessica competed in the 800m event for the first time. Ilana was a little off her entry but maintained her ranking whilst Jessica took over 10 seconds off her best time to improve on her ranking by 5 places. Our results are on the results page and the full results are on the county website.

In the boys age group relays all the boys swam superbly with many setting PBs or splitting faster than their PB and most teams matched or improved on their ranking with the 13/15 boys grabbing a top 8 finish. The splits and results can be viewed here. Times set in the first leg of the yellow that were PBs are highlighted. Many thanks to all the parents who ensured all the boys were there and on time.

Well done to all those who took part - I must say you all looked smart in your new ADSC County Hats and now you can wear them with pride in training and future galas/events.

Next Sunday is the turn of the 400m swimmers and girls in their age group relays.

Arthur Blake Memorial Trophy - retained

16th December 2017

Well what a great end to the season where we managed to once again retain the Arthur Blake Memorial Trophy. Pressed all the way by strong teams from Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard it was great to see so many swimmers step up and race. With two teams competing we also had many swimmers competing in this event for the first time and some even doing a 50m race for the first time. It was also great to see our masters swimmers holding their own against the younger ones. Finally huge congratulations to Tom Moslin who, having missed the club record by a whisker on two occasions, took his final opportunity to leave a legacy and break the 50m fly club record.

Many thanks to Mark, Alastair and Vicki for all their help poolside and our great officials for once again making sure the event ran smoothly. Results can be viewed here PBs on the first leg of the relay are shown in yellow.

National Arena League - London - Round 3

10th December 2017

Well despite a valiant effort from all our swimmers we finished 3rd on the night and, as last year, ended in 3rd overall in the league and just missing promotion again. It was a tough night of swimming with some great lessons in racing. We took the win in 6 events with individual firsts from Ilana, Izzy and Emily B. Ilana, Millie, Stephanie and Tom also set impressive personal bests.

Many thanks to Mark, Vicki, Lily, Sian, Libby and Dan for their help poolside and Gary, Tina and Bernie for officiating. All the results are on our results page.

Only 10 months to go and we can try again - third time lucky?

Young Sports Leader Award - Runner Up

4th December 2017

Josh finished runner-up in the Bucks Young Sports Leader Award ceromony held at the Waterside Theatre last week. He did, however, get the opportunity to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Rutherford and, dare I say, out dress him judging by the photo

Maxwell December Open Meet

3rd December 2017

Many congratulations to all our swimmers who competed in the Maxwell Open Meet. Despite the close proximity to the Club Championships our swimmers set over 80 personal best times including 3 club records - well done Libby (200 breast), Mya (200 fly) and Zac (50 fly). On the way we also picked up 75 medals (33 gold, 22 silver and 20 bronze) and set 67 County qualifying times. Special mention to Josh who broke 60 seconds for the first time in his 100 free.

Many thanks to Mark, Alastair, Vicki, Kerry, Ellen, Bailey, Lily and Emily for their help poolside and to all the volunteers and officials who ensured the meet ran successfully. All the results are on the website.

A huge THANK YOU to all our Coaches, Volunteers and Officials for helping to run such a great event over the last two weekend.

We must also thank all our swimmers for putting on such a great show with some wonderful swimming. Great to see so many younger swimmers competing for the first time.

Already looking forward to next year.

Club Championships Day 2

26th November 2017

What another great afternoon of swimming on day two of our Club Championships. Once again swimmers raised their game setting 280 personal best times and another two club records - Libby (100 IM) and Zac (100 Fly).

Well done Edna on celebrating her 70th year with the club, an amazing achievement and many thanks to our fabulous team of volunteers and officials for ensuring the event ran so smoothly.

The age group points results will be published shortly. All events results are now on the results page.

The qualifying times for next summer's SE Regional Championships have been published. Link here (on news page).

Club Championships 2017 - Day 1

21st November 2017

A really great start to our Club Championships with our biggest ever entry with over 450 swims. It was great to see so many swimmers competing for the first time as well as attemping some different events over longer distances. Although there were some disqualifications, the number was less than 3% of the total number of swims, which is pretty impressive. In total 300 personal best times were set and this included three club records from Charlotte (200 IM) and Sian (50 Breast and 100 back), congratulations girls. There were also 100 county accepted times and 60 county considered times achieved on the day.

All the results are on the results page and lets do the same (or even better!)  next Sunday.

800 Club records!

16th November 2017

Libby's 800m Club record on Sunday was appropriately the 800th record broken since we started keeping effective records several decades ago. In fact of the top 20 individual record breakers, 8 are still competing for the club. Maybe we will see a few more records go over the next few weekends at our Club Championships. You can view the top 20 here

Distance Time Trials

12th November 2017

Many congratulations to the 22 swimmers who took part in the distance time trials at the Aqua Vale. Several swimmers were racing over the distance events for the first time and everyone did a great job. Big well done to Harry who broke the boys 13/14 club record only to then watch Zac break it again in the next heat and Libby who took the 15/16 age group record, narrowly missing the overall record.

Many thanks to all the officials and volunteers who made the event possible, a few got a little wetter than they had planned! Results will are on the results page.

National Arena League Round 2 Success

12th November 2017

What another great evening of swimming and a memorable night for the club with every swimmer stepping up to ensure we won on the night just ahead of a really strong team from Putteridge (complete with a world record holder). Despite not heading the number of firsts on the night it was our consistency across the board that really counted and not a DQ in sight. 20 personal bests is a great indicator of the level of performance our swimmers were attaining. Congratulations also to Ben Meyer on making his Arena League debut for the club with some fine relay legs.

This result should place us third in the final with the top three teams all level on points, so a top two finish would mean promotion. The final is likely to be at Borehamwood on 9 December, so keep the date free - it will be a great night of racing. Details will be out shortly.

Many thanks to our great team of volunteers and officials for hosting the event, well impressive in an "away" venue. Thanks also to Alastair, Deryn, Lily and Sian for their help poolside. The results are now on the results page.

South East Winter Regionals

6th November 2017

For the first time (and hopefully the last!) the Winter Regional Championships was held as a long course meet and it was very evident that the majority of swimmers competing from across the region were struggling with this so early in the season.

Despite this our small team of swimmers put in some respectable performances and even managed some long course personal bests.

Dan had several good swims with the pick being his 50 backstroke where he came 6th in the final and qualified 7th for the 200 IM final. Libby qualified for 6 events with her best swim coming in the 200 IM where she came in the top 20 in the Juniors. Sian was in good form across the weekend and her best result came in the 50 breaststroke where she placed 24th. Charlotte had two strong swims with her best result coming in the 200 IM where she placed 23rd. Finally Mya had her seasons best swim in the 200 fly to place 25th in the juniors.

Well done to all our swimmers.

Masters - Short Course Nationals

30th October 2017

A number of our masters swimmers travelled up to Sheffield over the weekend to take part in the short course National Championships.

Kate, Deryn, Kerry, Ashley, Darren and Mike all competed and set several PBs and 3 county records (Deryn in the 100 and 200 breast and Kerry in the 200 back). Full results are on the results page.

You will get a chance to see them all in action at our Club Championships Laughing

Great start to Arena League

15th October 2017

What a great start for the team in this year's Arena League with a win in our first gala, the first time we have achieved this. We came away with 22 wins on the night out of the 50 races and took the gala by nearly 60 points, amassing 294 points, with Watford in 2nd on 235, Braintree in 3rd with 232, Halstead in 4th with 210, Tring in 5th with 166, Bushey in 6th with 147 and Wimbledon in 7th with 100.

All our swimmers really stepped up and it was great to see our younger swimmers competing in the competition for the first time. Finally well done to Oli Clegg for setting another Club Record.

Thanks to Watford for hosting, our Officials for supporting them, Alastair and team Lily for their help poolside.

Our next round is November 11th - keep the date free and I am hopeful that the next gala will start earlier so we will not be back so late. All the results will be published shortly.
